For the last few years, I felt like a conspiracy theorist. If I started talking to anyone about “grid fragility,” or the threats and challenges posed by onboarding massive renewables, or the recklessness of our domestic energy policy, I could practically feel a tinfoil hat growing out of my head. It’s a minority view—was a minority view—and people had good reason to doubt me.
After all, if things were so bad, why wasn’t anyone in charge saying something?
But then, the North American Electric Reliability Corp. released two reports this year that changed the game—one of which came out last week. Let’s dive into what they say.
