Two years ago, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), offered up choice cuts of rainforest real estate for auction to oil and gas firms willing to drill. The decision was slammed as a “neocolonial” play from one of the top five poorest countries in the world looking to gain $600 billion or more from sale of the reserves.
And yet the DRC forged ahead, just as it has when criticized for other energy plays like dam construction. Today, we’re going to look at what’s going on in the DRC’s energy economy and what it means for global energy.
