A new nuclear company launches // Solar firm raises $22 million // the UAE looks to expand its nuclear power capacity

Welcome to Grid Brief! Here’s what we’re looking at today: a new nuclear startup launches, British solar firm raises $22 million, UAE considers more nuclear power.

New Nuclear Startup Launches

The Nuclear Company, a fleet-scale nuclear development company, has launched, as reported by Axios.

While the domestic nuclear energy industry has largely been focused on developing next-generation technologies, The Nuclear Company is focused on building proven technologies at scale. As its website states, a “design-once, build-many approach uses a proven design to deliver safe and reliable electricity at the lowest cost. While others are betting on unproven design and engineering, we’re focused on approved and licensed technology already operating in the United States.”

The company will build coalitions of stakeholders, regulators, and financial institutions to catalyze the industry, make nuclear energy an attractive investment, and deliver projects on time and on budget.

The Nuclear Company aims to build its first 6 gigawatt fleet by the mid-2030s.

Naked Energy Raises $22 Million to Decarbonize Heat and Power

IMPA

Formed in 2009, Naked Energy is a British energy company that generates heat and power from solar energy. The company claims that its novel “Virtu” technology allows its clients to collect the most power-dense solar energy in the world. Specifically, the solar collected is “up to four times more impactful at offsetting CO2 emissions than conventional solar PV panels.”

The $22 million Series B funding round was led by E.ON Energy Infrastructure Solutions and Barclays’s Sustainable Impact Capital fund. Naked Energy has manufacturing bases in the UK and Europe and plans to open a new facility in Dallas this year.
