Let’s take a look at generation nation-wide:

A typical week in America: natural gas, coal, and nuclear were the top generators across the country.

And here’s a map to orient you as we move through the areas:

CAISO

California saw a dominant performance from natural gas with solar a distant second. Wind, hydro, and nuclear all scrapped for third place.

The week also opened with an eye-watering price spike:

California’s Energy Commission released a draft of its plan for offshore wind development last week. The plan estimates a potential generation capacity of 59.6 GW for offshore wind, including floating wind farms.

New York-ISO

Natural gas, hydro, and nuclear power kept the Empire State humming.

Price spikes hit the ISO between Jan. 20-21, vastly outstripping day ahead prices.
